LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - They're filled with anticipation but secretly scared that they
won't succeed. They're the freshman class getting settled on
college campuses throughout western Massachusetts.
Arriving freshmen at Bay Path College in Longmeadow shared
their feelings with 22News, as they begin this new chapter in their
lives.
Their families helped out with the moving ritual but beyond
that the hundreds of Bay Path freshmen will be on their own.
Many are far from home which only increases the pressure and
apprehension about the future that comes with entering college.
One incoming student told 22News what's running through her
mind. “The only thing I'm nervous about is my time
management. I know it's really important. I know it's really
important in college. I'm just hoping I can get everything done,
It's a new experience for a whole bunch of girls and learn on time
so we don't mess up,” said Kammy Nghiem
a Bay Path College freshman.
They know their parents are literally banking on how well they
do in college, since tuition these days are not to be taken
lightly.
Another newcomer to the Longmeadow campus told 22News, she
wants her parents to feel that money has been well spent.
“It's very nerve wracking. I'm terrified. Sometimes excited
and others being distracted, really helps. I just don't want to
fail, I really want to succeed, I have a really big future ahead of
me and I want to accomplish,” said Bay Path College freshman
Lana Bibi.
These scenes are being repeated on college campus all over
the Pioneer valley. Their parents have high expectations for them,
but no higher than the goals they've set for themselves.
