SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The MSPCA Animal Care & Adoption Center in Springfield has
taken in the last animals it will place for adoption.
Wednesday was the last day that animals could be surrendered
at the MSPCA facility on Union Street.
The facility is closing on March 31st due to financial
problems. The remaining animals are up for adoption and looking for
new homes.
For volunteers like Lorraine Slepski there's concern for
animals when the MSPCA is no longer open. "I see the people coming
in surrendering their animals and boxes with mother cats and
kittens in the springtime. Like in the summer we can take in 80
animals a day here, and there's no place for these animals to go
so, so it's going to be devastating," said Slepski.
The MSPCA wants to remind people that the remaining animals
at the center are available for adoption, through next Thursday,
March 26th. As an added incentive, starting this weekend there will
be reduced fees for adopting an animal.
