AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Monday, foster chlidren and their families got the chance to experience a fun-filled afternoon compliments of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
For the past 6 years, the MSPCC has hosted a foster family summer kick-off at Six Flags.
The event gives foster children and their families the chance to network and enjoy an experience that some kids never had before.
Over 1,500 children and their foster parents gathered at Six Flags in Agawam for a fantastic picnic day at the amusement park.
Jasmin Malachleb is one of the foster children who found a loving home with her grandparents after a rough beginning with her immediate family.
"My real mom didn't really take care of me, so I actually felt good about having someone who loved me and would take care of me the right way," said Malochleb.
The Director of Communications for the MSPCC, Mary McGeown, told 22News there are 10,000 kids in foster care in Massachusetts.
"We are always looking for parents who are willing to open their hearts and homes to these kids. They are volunteers; they do this because they love children and want to make a difference," said McGeown.
The MSPCC helps support foster parents in a variety of ways including offering baby sitting services, free activites for the kids, and emotional counseling.
