PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - The town of Palmer remembered its war dead today with a show of respect.

Veterans with tears in their eyes proudly marched by accepting the applause and affection from several generations of Eastern Hampden County families.

Young people assured 22NEWS that even those far removed from the wars in which veterans fought and died, they will always maintain what links them all to observe Memorial day now and in the future.

Brian Erickson is a Palmer High School student. He said that, "my grandfather was part of the war, and there is just great to go out and honor people like him who went out there for their country."

Palmer resident Jeff Jambora told 22News that "I'm sure most of the people who have family members even people remember the revolution, I think they'll be well remembered."

It's in the cemeteries and at the memorial monuments where these solemn observances have their deepest meaning for the loved ones of those who fell in battle.

A new generation will grow up and understand the sacrifices that Western Massachusetts respectfully observes during Memorial Day.
