SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Despite the Fast Lane transponder give-a-ways, many turnpike
drivers still use cash at the tolls.
The Boston Globe is reporting one in three turnpike drivers
are using Fast Lane transponders. Since the transponders became
free, about 30,000 drivers have signed up.
Once local driver who has a transponder say drivers without
one are rude on the road.
Norman Dufresne of Belchertown told 22News, "The traffic gets
backed up, and you get frustrated because you can't get into the
Fast Lane because they block the traffic."
About 7 percent of those not willing to sign up for a free transponder said they worry about handling personal data to the Turnpike Authority.
