LEVERETT, Mass. (WWLP) - The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society in Leverett says they
are close to the point of overflowing with animals because of a
lack of adoptions.
According to Candy Lash with the PVHS, people typically adopt
about 20 animals a weekend. Last weekend, only two were adopted.
Lash says the reopening of the PVHS building in Springfield
along with the closing of a facility in Greenfield may have some
thinking the Leverett adoption center is also closed.
She says she believes the problem is confusion about whether
the Leverett office is open.
"We want to save lives, and we want to get all these animals
placed," said Candy Lash. "If they can get placed as quickly as
possible, we have room to take more animals in, and we can only do
that with the community's help."
The PVHS says they need people's help to come in and find
homes for the overflow of animals, mostly cats and kittens.
