WILLIAMSBURG, Mass. (WWLP) - A bridge in Williamsburg is finally getting the attention it deserves.

The Skinnerville Bridge is being replaced.

The bridge was built in the 1970's and was never repaired since.

The bridge is in such unsafe condition that for years, fire trucks and ambulances couldn't cross it.

Residents of Williamsburg told 22News, its a dangerous bridge that could have turned deadly.

"A few years ago the yellow house had a fire and they had to park at the end and drag the hose over and call Northampton Fire Department for help," recalled Besty O'Brien, who lives across from the bridge.

Luckily no one was hurt in that fire, but residents are very relieved that now they have a bridge that's safe for emergency vehicles to get across.
