SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It was hot, humid, and sticky on Wednesday here in the Pioneer
Valley.
Some residents use dehumidifiers to literally suck the
moisture right out of the air -- to help fight mold and mustiness
and to make for a more comfortable atmosphere. But that luxury
comes at a price.
According to
Northeast
Utilities, it can cost an average of $45 a month to run a
dehumidifier constantly.
Springfield resident Linda Sullivan told 22News it is worth
the price to save the carpet and furniture.
"We ran it there so it would not let the moisture into the
walls, or the carpet, or the furniture because it could ruin it. So
I think they're good to have," she said.
Experts say dehumidifiers work best when left on all the
time. The higher the capacity, the more moisture they remove, and
the more power they draw.
