GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Becoming an Eagle scout is the dream of every boy scout here in western Massachusetts.

This weekend, a Greenfield teenager is making his dream come true by way of a community service project that will help a lot of needy people.

On Saturday 17-year-old Greg Cote commuted between three Greenfield area food stores collecting donated groceries.

Shoppers quickly responded to the young man's good work by donating more than 16 hundred items of food along with hundreds of dollars in cash.

One shopper told 22News how much she admires what Greg was doing to earn his Eagle Scout ranking. "Oh I think it's a great idea, I think there's a lot of people who need help and I think It's a great thing they're doing to help them," said Jacqueline Watrous of Turners Falls.

The Montague Catholic Social Ministries Food Pantry in Turners Falls will distribute the more than 5 tons of groceries Greg collected Saturday.

"I was thinking about helping the community a little bit, just helping them out, so something helpful and do a food drive and I'm doing it at three grocery stores," explained Boy Scout Greg Cote.

This community-minded young man is a Junior at Franklin County Technical High School.
