GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Greenfield Seniors will be getting the seasonal flu vaccine as more supplies become available.
Director of Greenfield Council on Aging, Hope Macary, says the Greenfield Senior Center will be holding a flu clinic on Wednesday November 4th.
They have 250 doses. They're handing them out by appointment.
Macary says they weren't sure when they were going to get the vaccine.
"[In] my 11 years doing flu clinics this has been the most unique year ever and that's because of H1N1," said Macary.
She says the biggest hold up has been the production of two vaccines, the H1N1 and the normal seasonal flu vaccine.
She says they kept getting mixed signals on when they might get supplies, and be able to offer it to seniors.
"First October, then we were told, no, early November, than late November," said Macary.
Last week they nailed down when they would be able to administer the vaccine.
Despite the confusion, appointment spots have filled up, for almost their entire supply.
"We had about a week, so within a week we filled up appointments very quickly," said Macary.
Quickly because seniors like Patricia Webb say they know how important it is to get the shot.
"We were wondering if we were going to have it," said Webb. "I was waiting for the senior center to do it."
