SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield's "hot dog guy" returned to his old spot on
Worthington Street Thursday night.
Business was brisk Thursday night for John Verducci. Music in
Stearns Square brought out a lot of hungry customers.
Verducci's appearance marked the first time he had parked his
hot dog trailer along Worthington Street since the parking
Authority told him to move two weeks ago, citing an until-recently
unenforced 1930's law.
Patrons like Herman Serrano of Springfield were glad to see
the hot dog guy back. "I think the restaurants here stop serving
around ten o'clock. I think John's been here long enough that after
10 o'clock it's just fair game. That man is just trying to make a
living."
Springfield State Representative Cheryl Coakley-Rivera is
also a Verducci supporter: "And there's so many people contributing
to all businesses. And whether you're Izzo's whether you're John
selling hot dogs, you can make a living and we can all enjoy each
other's businesses."
After John's troubles began earlier this month, a facebook
page called "I Support the Hot Dog Guy" was created to support him.
"
As of Thursday night the hot dog guy's facebook page has more
than 26-hundred facebook friends.
