SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts concern over the possible closing of the Springfield Shriner’s hospital has triggered emergency fund raisers all over the Pioneer Valley.

Springfield area bikers rode off on their poker run from the South Hadley Polish-American citizens club this morning.

The bikers told 22News, the future of the Shriner's hospital could well be riding on the success of fund raisers like theirs.

Chris “Moose” Mangeau of South Hadley told 22News, “You've got a bunch of great guys and gals going out on a ride to support our Shriner's. They do a lot of great work, a lot of kids that need this help and can't afford it and my heart goes out.”

Bev Witter of Granby added, “Because the children need the help, not a very good day, hoping the sun will come out.”

Since the distressing news months ago that the Springfield Shriner's hospital might be closing, supporters have held a number of fund raisers.

22News was told to expect a final decision about the hospital's future some time in July.
