EAST LONGMEADOW, mass. (WWLP) - The East Longmeadow rotary is the site of hundreds of accidents
and has been featured on national television as being one of the
most dangerous stretches of roadway in the world.
22News is
live
streaming and live blogging all day on Monday so you can get a
bird’s eye view of what goes on around the rotary during any
given moment.
It's very heavily traveled area that thousands of cars pass
through every day. Seven streets come together without any traffic
lights, making for a dangerous combination.
The rotary is so notorious that a page has started on
facebook.com named “I'm an East Longmeadow Rotary Survivor.”
The rotary is different in that incoming traffic has the
right of way, and cars passing through have to yield.
About ten years ago, stop signs were put up to control
traffic off Main Street and Somers Road.
And according the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, between
2003 and 2005 there were about 150 crashes there, but no
fatalities.
