GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The 4th of July might be fun for the family but not necessarily for the pets.

The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society says their busiest day of the year is often the day after the fireworks, the 5th of July. Animals often run scared when the loud displays start.

They suggest bringing any outdoor pets inside and making sure they have a cool, quiet spot where they can feel safe.

Pet experts say animals have more sensitive ears than humand do, and they can be easily scared by the festivities.

Candy Lash of the DAKIN Pioneer Valley Human Society told 22News, "Air conditioners fans, white noise that helps to dull the sound from the outside, we want to make sure doors and windows are secure, pets have been known to go through screens."
