TOLLAND, Mass. (WWLP) - The Western Hampden county community of Tolland may be a small town, but residents want their fire and police departments to have secure headquarters.
A full capacity crowd filled Monday night's Tolland town meeting. They voted to take a vote.
AT issue, approving a bond to pay for a $2 Million dollar project to build a new public safety complex.
The new complex would replace the aging Public Works building which is in pretty bad shape.
Bob Gery chairs the Public Safety & Municipal Complex Committee. He told 22News, "It's pretty much falling down. It's unsafe both electrically and health wise. So we need to deal with that first. And we also need a much bigger Community Complex for all of the meetings we're having in the town."
The town meeting passed the measure with a more than a two-thirds majority of the 128 votes cast Monday night, 94 to 33.
This means Tolland voters will have the chance to vote on a $2 million bond to fund construction of the complex in a special election July 14th.
