WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There were some traffic troubles in West Springfield Tuesday morning when a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a utility pole.
West Springfield Police Captain John Ferrarini told 22News the crash happened around 6:00 a.m. on Route 20 near Rogers Avenue. Captn. Ferrarini said the pole got knocked down, causing power lines to be strewn across the road.
Route 20 was shut down for a few hours because of the crash. Traffic has since reopened to one lane, but crews continue to work to clear the pole, which could take a few more hours. A police officer is directing traffic in the area.
The driver was not injured in the crash.
