AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - The UMass police department and residence hall security took their annual "walk for light" tour Wednesday night.
The walk is designed to identify on-campus areas that could pose safety issues. They're looking to illuminate poorly lit areas and identify non-functioning "help" phones.
But after an alleged sexual assault in the library Tuesday night, some students still don't feel safe.
UMass freshman Lindsay Ormand told 22News "There are call boxes and usually people around but I mean it's definitely worrisome like if you have to go from the library to your dorm."
Patrick T. Archbald, the Deputy Chief of UMass Police told 22News, the police are looking in to how they can further prevent incidents, like the reported sexual assault, from happening inside the campus buildings.
