WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Aged veterans honored their former comrades in arms in Westfield on Sunday.

The ceremony at the Yankee Division Veterans Memorial was one of many such observances that will take place across western Massachusetts through Wednesday, the formal observance of Veterans Day.

Frank Jazab, a 95-year-old World War II veteran from Holyoke told 22News, his heart goes out to the men and women combating enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan. “This war is altogether different. The enemy you don't know you're fighting here. The enemy is all around you, so I feel very sorry for these kids that are up there now.”

Sunday’s ceremony also attracted a much younger crowd.

One man told 22News, he wanted to quietly honor members of his family who had proudly worn the uniform and fought for their country.
