SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A volunteer group known as ' Keep Springfield Beautiful' spearheaded a clean-up drive throughout the city of Springfield Saturday. It's all in an effort to help keep Springfield beautiful.
Volunteers helped plant trees in four Springfield neighborhoods. The first of those trees was planted on historic Mulberry Street, where Dr. Seuss grew up.
Mulberry Street resident Bill Duquette told 22News, nothing could please him more than watching the tree planting from his backyard. "We were really thrilled because this is a historic neighborhood. It's the street where Dr. Seuss lived at one time. We're very thankful for whatever the city is doing and they have been very helpful."
'
Keep Springfield Beautiful' has ten thousand
dollars for tree planting purposes.
They will plant more trees in the Maple High, Six Corners,
McKnight and East Springfield neighborhoods. Any left over money
will be used to plant trees in downtown Springfield.
