WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - This weekend a neighborhood in Westfield reflects on the tragic deaths of a mother and son that were killed on Halloween night.
Loved ones have put up a memorial near Maplewood Avenue where Roberta Salois and her son Steven were killed.
The two were trick or treating and crossing South Maple Street when they were struck and killed by a passing car.
On the anniversary of this tragic crash, friends of the Salois are still grieving.
"They are both thinking about him and it’s a year ago today and they’re missing him," said Jill Carboni who was a friend of the victims.
"It was a night pretty much like this it was a little bit rainy and foggy. There were a lot more trick or treaters out. There isn’t very many tonight it was just a tragic tragic accident," said Paulette Pellerin who lives nearby.
Those who live near the accident site, told 22News drivers are still speeding down Route 10 and 202, which makes it unsafe for pedestrians.
