BOSTON (AP) - With summer officially under way and temperatures continuing to rise, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is announcing that for the first time 10 city pools will remain open seven days a week.

Menino made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that now Boston residents can cool-off from the heat any day of the week.

In addition to expanding pool openings, the mayor announced new summer programming in the city that include neighborhood pool parties, concert and movie series and other free activities.

This summer Boston will also be offering free neighborhood drop-in program at community centers through Boston Recreational Opportunities for City Kids.

The programs aim to provide every child in Boston with opportunities to participate in "positive" activities during the summer.
