WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. (AP) - State police say a 64-year-old Princeton man who was being chased by police jumped to his death from a highway bridge in central Massachusetts.

Authorities say the man, whose name has not been released, stopped his Jeep at the beginning of the bridge on Interstate 190 in West Boylston early Monday. The man then got out of his car and ran about 130 feet with a state trooper in close pursuit before jumping headfirst over a concrete barrier.

Police say he plunged about 47 feet, landing on a rocky embankment of the Quinapoxet River. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pursuit began around midnight when police tried to stop the vehicle on Route 140 in Sterling.

Authorities say the man was wanted in connection with a break-in and assault in Princeton on Sunday.
