WINCHENDON, Mass. (AP) - A 48-year-old Oxford man is dead after he crashed his snowmobile into a metal gate in Winchendon.

The state environmental police say William J. Walsh Jr. died after the accident on Friday afternoon.

Police said Walsh lost control of the snowmobile and hit a gate on New Boston Road, near Lake Dennison. He was unresponsive when police arrived and later pronounced dead

Police were still investigating the accident Saturday.

It's the third snowmobile fatality in Massachusetts this year and the second in the Lake Dennison area. On Jan. 15, another snowmobiler was killed after hitting a tree near New Boston Road. The other fatality came Jan. 28, after a man rolled over on a snowmobile in Methuen.
