A 17-year-old girl cited by police for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run that left a 12-year-old boy seriously injured is facing additional charges.

Lowell police announced Thursday that Michelle Medeiros of Methuen has been charged with speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to use caution when changing lanes.

Police said after Medeiros struck the boy she reported that her car was vandalized and had it towed to an auto-body shop. She faces a fine or imprisonment of up to two years.

An arraignment date has yet to be set. It was unclear if Medeiros had hired an attorney.
