SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It is a sad day for New England football fans, struggling to come to terms with the Pats' lost chance to play in the Super Bowl. But if there's one thing about New England fans, they sure are resilient.
“Oh it was heartbreaking.”
“It was very disappointing. I almost felt like I was getting ready to cry.”
Patriots fans woke up Monday hoping it was all a bad dream: the Baltimore Ravens are the AFC champions and Super Bowl bound.
Sports bars that were packed with pats fans Sunday night cleared out as another season ended in devastating defeat.
“I don't think it really got off the ground to tell you the truth. They seemed to show up to play but it just wasn't connecting,” said Christine Kumiega of Granby.
“I really don't think they gelled together. The Ravens are good, even though I think they're dirty players, but they're good,” said Paula Hipsher, a Patriots fan from Michigan.
It's been eight years since the Patriots relished in the glory of a Super Bowl win. But some doubt we have the whole 'losing gracefully' thing down pat.
“They probably still need some practice on that I would think. Chances are there were some very uncomplimentary phrases emitted by the people,” said Robert Duane of West Springfield.
“We're just so used to it so its very hard to accept the loss. It really is. We just expect to win all the time and I just thought the team this year was one of the best they've had in a very long time. 2144 now we just forge ahead,” said Toni Trehey at Sportstuff in Springfield.
And for Toni at Sportstuff, forging ahead means boxing up the Pats gear and looking on the bright side-- Hockey season resumed last week, and fans can all wear Bruins gear again.
