WOBURN, Mass. (AP) - A jury has convicted an Everett man of first-degree murder in
the death of his former girlfriend, whose body was discovered in
the trunk of her car.
Lesly Cheremond was immediately sentenced Monday to the
automatic sentence of life in prison without the chance for parole.
He was also found guilty of aggravated rape.
The victim, 41-year-old Norma Dorce Gilles, was last seen
Feb. 13, 2008 at the Malden hair salon where she worked.
Her car was located by Malden police two weeks later and her
body was found in the trunk.
Prosecutors said Cheremond and Gilles had argued on the day
before she was last seen.
An autopsy determined that Gilles was strangled.
