TRURO, Mass. (AP) - The owners of a home on Cape Cod that once belonged to American
artist Edward Hopper say they plan to preserve the house and most
of a surrounding plot of land.
Anton Schiffenhaus told the Cape Cod Times that he and his
family are proposing a conservation restriction, with the exception
of one small corner of the 7.6-acre spread in Truro.
A conservation restriction limits the use of land to protect
natural, scenic or open spaces.
Hopper built an 800-square foot summer home on Cape Cod Bay
in 1934 and depicted the rolling landscape he could see from his
studio window in many paintings.
Another family has been cleared to build a 6,500-square-foot
home on an adjacent nine-acre piece of property once owned by
Hopper, who died in 1967.
