Boston track to discuss casino plan

BOSTON (AP) - The owners of Suffolk Downs will be outlining for nearby residents their plans to upgrade local roadways if a resort casino is built at the racetrack.

Officials have scheduled transportation meetings with Revere residents on Tuesday evening and with East Boston neighborhood residents on Thursday. The meetings will be held at the Topsider Room in the clubhouse of the track, which straddles Revere and East Boston.

Suffolk Downs has promised to invest $40 million to improve traffic flow on Route 1A and other roadways in the heavily-congested area.

Suffolk Downs and partner Caesar's Entertainment have proposed a $1 billion resort, which if approved by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission would be one of up to three regional casinos allowed under the state's new expanded gambling law.
