RANDOLPH, Mass. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is trying to draw a sharp line on taxes with his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren .

The Massachusetts Republican said he's trying to keep taxes low to help businesses grow, while portraying Warren as a "jobs destroyer" who favors a heavier tax burden.

Brown said Warren supports tax increases that would cost $3.4 trillion over the next decade.

Brown made his comments Tuesday during a speech before the South Shore Chamber of Commerce in Randolph.

Warren said Brown made up that number and argues that Brown has voted to maintain tax subsidies for oil companies and is against closing tax loopholes that allow the wealthy to pay lower tax rates than middle class families.

The Massachusetts Senate race is one of the most closely watched in the nation.
