Budget cuts could heavily impact air travel

WASHINGTON D.C. (WWLP) - If congress fails to reach an agreement regarding automatic budget cuts set to start on March first, it could have serious impacts on air travel.

Secretary of transportation Ray LaHood warned today that cutbacks within the FAA could result in fewer air traffic controllers and the closures of small airport towers around the country.

The most imminent problem for the public will be the cancellation of flights and significant delays at airports across the country.

"This is a big deal, this is a big deal because a lot of common ordinary citizens fly, a lot of people use airports and this is going to have a real impact,” Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said.

Lahood says the full effect of flight delays and cancellations would start causing problems by April 1st.
