Bus Driver vs. Meter Maid

BOSTON (WHDH) - Boston officials say an MBTA bus driver tried to avoid a parking ticket on Thursday morning when she struck a parking enforcement officer as she drove away.

Officials said Lataria Milton, 34, was eating a bagel on her empty bus, which was parked illegally and blocking traffic.

Milton was issued a ticket by a city transportation enforcement supervisor.

"The meter maid asked the bus driver to move. She said, "No I'm not going to move." And gave her -- she says, "Well I'll give you a ticket." ˜She said ˜Go ahead, give me a ticket," then ripped up the ticket," said Letizia Talluto, a witness.

"It appears that when they were both at the red light the driver got out of the BDT van, said "Here's your ticket," put it on the windshield. At that time, the driver of the MBTA bus hit the gas, hit the officer and hit four vehicles,"said Commissioner Tom Timlin of the Boston Transportation Department.

The supervisor was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

The three other drivers, whose cars were damaged, walked away from the wreckage.

Six hours after the crash Milton was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and driving to endanger.

The Department of Transportation said the supervisor that was hit has been with the department for over 20 years and has a stellar record.

She remains hospitalized.

Milton will be arraigned Friday in Roxbury District Court.

The supervisor is expected to be okay.
