Discussions to try and resolve charges

BOSTON, Mass. (AP) - Prosecutors and lawyers for former Massachusetts Treasurer Tim Cahill are expected to update a judge on discussions they've had to try to resolve corruption charges against him.

The two sides are scheduled to be in Suffolk Superior Court Friday for a status conference, two months after a judge declared a mistrial in the case when a jury was unable to reach a verdict.

Cahill was accused of scheming to run $1.5 million in taxpayer-funded lottery ads to boost his unsuccessful 2010 independent campaign for governor.

Cahill's lawyers and state Attorney General Martha Coakley have acknowledged they have been in discussions over how to resolve the case. Coakley has not said whether her office intends to re-try Cahill.
