Man charged in death of girlfriend's daughter

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A 23-year-old New Bedford man is being arraigned on an upgraded charge of murder in the death of his girlfriend's infant daughter last month.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office says Ethen Harrison will be arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court. He's been held without bail since pleading not guilty to earlier assault and child endangerment charges.

Prosecutors say Harrison was alone with 9-month-old Ariel Eluziario when she was hurt Jan. 24, and acknowledged "certain acts" consistent with her fatal injuries.

The Standard Times has reported that court documents say Harrison told police he was angry when Ariel became `fussy" and caused her to hit her head twice on the floor, then slapped her. She had a large blood clot on her brain and died that night at a Rhode Island hospital.
