(WWLP) - 11 casino developers have applied for a Massachusetts gaming license.
22News has some information on one company that hasn't specified where it hopes to build.
That last minute applicant is The Cordish Companies . It applied under the name PPE Casino Resorts, which stands for Power Plant Enterntainment Casino Resorts.
The company said in a statement it is still evaluating several sites within the state. That does not eliminate another Western Massachusetts location as a potential landing spot.
Cordish is based out of Baltimore. It partnered with Hard Rock on two Florida casinos. The company also opened Maryland Live Casino in 2012. It is building a casino in Indianapolis and another in Upstate New York.
The 22News I-Team discovered that several casino operators who paid their application fee are patiently waiting to see what happens in the Southeast corner of the state, which is also earmarked for a casino license. In October, the US Department of Interior rejected the casino agreement between Governor Deval Patrick and the Mashpee Wampanoags. If Wampanoags cannot workout a deal quickly, the State Gaming Commission could open up the Southeast for bidding.
