BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 76-year-old man died in a three-alarm fire at a Brookfield apartment complex.

The victim in the blaze just after midnight Monday at the Quaboag Village Apartments was identified as James Hurley. His wife, Irene, and a one firefighter were injured.

Hurley was found unresponsive in his bedroom and CPR was performed, but he was pronounced dead at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware.

Brookfield Fire Chief Peter Martell said Irene Hurley was taken to Baystate Mary Lane Hospital and transferred to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where she was listed in fair condition.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that about 20 people were displaced by the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.

Brookfield is a small town in western Worcester County, located just north of Sturbridge.
