Massachusetts electors to cast ballots for Obama, Biden

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly backed President Barack Obama's re-election last month and members of the state's Electoral College will make that vote official next week.

On Monday, the state's 11 electors will cast their ballots for Obama during a Statehouse ceremony.

The electors are scheduled to gather in the Massachusetts House chamber at 3 p.m. where they will be sworn in by Gov. Deval Patrick.

Massachusetts voters chose the electors when they cast more than 60 percent of their votes for the Democratic presidential ticket in November.

Electors will cast separate ballots for Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

Once the electoral ballots are tabulated, the votes are sent by registered mail to the president of the United States Senate, the archivist of the United States and the federal judge of the Massachusetts District.
