CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to replace the E-ZPass transponders with smaller, less expensive boxes over the next few years.
MassDOT says the new transponders will be one-third the size and will cost the state $8.90 per unit, as opposed to the current price of $20.95 per unit.
Transportation officials plan to issue approximately 200,000 new transponders a year, for the next few years.
There are currently 1.8 million E-ZPass transponders currently in use in Massachusetts.
