(WWLP) - National Grid is warning customers in New England that people calling them claiming to be from the utility company may not be who they say they are.
The state's largest utility said customers are receiving calls from people claiming to work for National Grid and demanding money on past due balances. They are also threatening that their power will be shut off if they do not pay.
National Grid released a statement about the issue to 22News, reading in part: "National Grid does contact customers with past due balances by phone to offer payment options, but never demands direct payment over the telephone. If customers wish, they can arrange for a payment by check, credit card or debit card if they speak directly to a customer service representative."
