BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The two leading Democratic U.S. Senate Candidates here in Massachusetts have collected a lot of money from outside political organizations.
The Associated Press reports that during the 2011-2012 election cycle, Congressman Edward Markey received 47% of all the money he raised from Political Action Committees or PACs.
During that same time, PACs gave Congressman Stephen Lynch 67% of his total money.
22News asked people if they think more money should come from regular people and small businesses.
Maddi Blask said, “I think it could be seen as unfair because whoever has the money has the power. And if it's a big organization, that could seen as an advantage for them. I mean if you have good ideas, try to make money because you’re not going to be heard if you don't.”
Lynch is heavily backed by unions, and insurance sectors, while Markey's money has come from the telecommunications industry, energy and environmental groups.
The special election to fill the seat held by Secretary of State John Kerry is June 25.
