LYNN, Mass. (AP) - A Lynn woman is facing charges after officials say she slapped her daughter because the girl wore the wrong shoes to school.

Rosilda Lopez was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to two counts of assault and battery.

Police say she went to her daughter's elementary school on Nov. 14 after getting a call from school officials saying she needed sneakers for gym. Police say another student witnessed Lopez strike her daughter about the face and head.

The alleged assault was also caught on surveillance video.

The Daily Item reports that Lopez's lawyer declined comment, and Lopez said she does not speak English when reached at her home.
