Poll shows support for medical marijuana, life-ending drugs

BOSTON (WWLP) - A new poll shows that Massachusetts voters support access to life-ending drugs and medical marijuana.

The new survey by Public Policy Polling shows a wide margin of support in favor of letting doctors prescribe life-ending drugs and medical marijuana.

Massachusetts voters favored legalizing self-administered life-ending drugs 58% to 24%. Similarly, there was strong support for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes, 58% to 27%. Both questions will appear on the state election ballot this November.

“I think we should legalize medical marijuana,” said Sami Dilai of Boston, because I think it’s going to help a lot of people to calm their nerves.”

Brian Kuhn of Plymouth says he would favor allowing doctors to prescribe life-ending drugs, but he doesn’t like the idea of his own loved ones receiving them.

“My own family having life-ending drugs or anything I’d probably say I wouldn’t want it to happen, I would say I’d be in favor of it, of having people have that right.”

Under the proposed law, terminally ill patients will be able to request and self-administer medication to end their life.

The second proposed law will legalize medical marijuana for patients suffering from debilitating diseases like cancer, AIDS, or multiple sclerosis.
