Pro gun rally held in North Brookfield

NORTH BROOKFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A large pro 2nd amendment rally took place about 25 miles away from Springfield in the Worcester County community of North Brookfield on Sunday.

Gun rights, after what happened in Newtown, Connecticut, Aurora, Colorado and Tucson Arizona, has become the topic of heated debate around the country.

In North Brookfield, hundreds of former and active duty military members and regular citizens stood in the cold to send a message to politicians, "Don't tread on me."

“If they try to disarm us, I'm prepared to refuse to do that. And I'd encourage everybody else to do the same,” Dave Kopacz

They held signs, waved flags and told 22News that elected officials should be on notice.

“Let them know that they took an oath of office to defend the constitution and let them know that they have to live up to that oath if they want to stay in office,” Scott Forbes said.

The grassroots event was organized by Richard Dupre, the owner of Red Zone Tactical in North Brookfield.

Dupree said, “Were not really doing any good spouting off one person at a time. Lets try and get as many people together and show the politicians how we really feel.”

Dupre told 22News he hopes other towns will hold these pro 2nd amendment rallies so eventually they can take their message to the state house.

The rally in North Brookfield comes less than 24 hours after a rally in Boston in support of legislation to reduce gun violence.

A bill sponsored by Rep. David Linsky of Natick would require gun owners to get liability insurance.
