BOSTON (WWLP) - One hundred high school graduates are being awarded scholarships on Beacon Hill.

All together, more than $100,000 in scholarships were distributed to about 100 students from across the state.

The scholarships will go toward helping out high school graduates with their college bills as they enter their freshman class in the fall.

Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray was there to congratulate the students, who are being recognized for their leadership, good grades, and community service. More than a dozen students from western Massachusetts were awarded for their achievements.

Greenfield High School graduate Emily Butynski is one of the students honored.

“This scholarship is going to help me a lot with going forward in my education, and my dream is to be a music teacher, so this will help me achieve my dream,” Butynski said.

Murray praised the students’ achievements, and thanked the Comcast Foundation , which made the scholarships possible.

“It’s great, they’ve achieve a lot, that’s why they’re here getting some scholarships from Comcast, and it’s great to see a corporate leader step up to the plate and help make education affordable and accessible,” Murray said.

Murray said it was encouraging to see corporations pitching-in to help out communities in the Commonwealth.
