LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - University of Massachusetts Lowell officials say the school will be working with the U.S. Army to develop new solutions to protect military personnel.

School and military officials plan to announce details of the partnership Thursday morning.

Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and U.S. Rep Niki Tsongas are expected to speak at the event on the school's campus.

UMass officials say students, researchers and faculty will pair with engineers and scientists from the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center for the initiative.
