CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Three western Massachusetts businesses are facing fines for hiring unlawful employees.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says Jae's Spice and Sampco Incorporated, both of Pittsfield, as well as Panda House of Westfield, were fined for various employment violations.

ICE officials say they inspected the employers' documents as part of a homeland security initiative to reduce the demand for illegal workers.

A total of 17 businesses across the state were fined.
