(WWLP) - The worst of the flu season may be over.

Reports of "influenza-like" illnesses have gone down for the third consecutive week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says fewer states are reporting high activity levels.

At last count, 31 states reported widespread flu cases. That's down from 38 states the week before.

Despite the lower numbers, flu deaths continue to rise. So far, 64 children have died from the flu this season.
