BOSTON (WWLP) - Thousands of people hoping for a winter getaway are stranded at Logan International airport. While some lucky travelers were able to catch early morning flights before Winter Storm Nemo hit Boston, many snowbirds had to find hotels and reschedule their flights for another date. Logan airport has not shut down, limited flights will continue on two runways for as long as snow removal crews can clear the airfield.
At 3:30pm, subways and public buses were ordered by state officials to be shut down in Boston. 22 News spoke to commuters who gave themselves plenty of time to catch the last trains.
“I wasn’t too worried because we were let out about an hour before the T closed so we were ok,” said Alex Gonzalez of Boston.
“No, I think I gave myself enough time, just trying to get inside into the warmth,” said David Stenhause of Jamaica Plain. “It’s not as bad as they say but I think that’s a good thing so hopefully it stays this way.”
Governor Deval Patrick says as much as three feet of snow will continue to fall until late Saturday. The governor has ordered all drivers to stay off the roads.
