BOSTON (AP) - The commanding officer of the Massachusetts State Police has
honored some of state's bravest officers.
State police Superintendent Col. Mark Delaney on Friday
recognized 22 members of his own force, seven members of the New
Bedford department, and four civilians at a Statehouse ceremony.
A state detective lieutenant and a trooper were honored with
Medals of Valor that go to officers who have exhibited outstanding
courage in the performance of their duties.
Seven New Bedford officers, some state police investigators
and a female security guard were honored for their apprehension of
a man suspected of fatally stabbing his former girlfriend and his
mother last January.
A retired State Police colonel from Worcester was given the
highest civilian award for extraordinary assistance to the
department.
A Malden woman was honored with an award for saving a
life.
