Father allegedly beats son to death

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Authorities in Massachusetts say a 7-year-old boy was severely beaten by his dad on Father's Day and has been declared "clinically dead."

Officials say Nathaniel Turner remains on life support at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at which a juvenile court judge will decide whether to remove him from life support.

Relatives say Nathaniel had lived with his grandmother in Alabama before coming to live with his 36-year-old father, Leslie Schuler.

Schuler recently received a court order to have summer custody of the child.

Police say Schuler abused the boy.

He is charged with 10 counts. He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer says his client is remorseful.
