BOSTON (AP) - Jurors who helped convict a man of building a bomb that killed a Boston police officer in 1991 say he was wrongly convicted and deserves a new trial.

Alfred Trenkler was sentenced to life in 1993 after his conviction on conspiracy and other charges after plotting with Thomas Shay to build a bomb intended to kill Shay's father.

The device detonated while a bomb squad was disarming it, killing Officer Jeremiah Hurley.

Three jurors, swayed by a book about the case, have written to a federal judge, asking her to grant Trenkler a new trial.

The jurors describe different reasons for their doubts, including the circumstantial nature of some evidence and the limited investigation.

Hurley's widow, Cynthia, tells The Boston Globe she believes Trenkler is guilty.
